Penny Pitterson hails from Jamaica and started dancing at an early age. She continued dancing with her high school troupe in festival competitions and with the Jayteens, a company led by one of the leading dancers of the National Dance Theatre of Jamaica. Upon migrating to New York, Penny was introduced to African Dance and became a member of the LaRoque Bey School of Dance in Harlem. She was also a member of the Afro-Caribbean dance company Jeme Kavash. Penny is a founding member, choreographer and dancer with The Roots & Culture Dance Ensemble, a troupe of adult and children dancers that has performed at numerous venues and occasions in the South Florida area. Throughout the years, she has been a member of The Chiumba-Imani Dance Company, Children of the Caribbean, Abeng, Journey to Africa and has also performed with Naana Banyiwa Horne and Delou Africa Dance. Currently a member of Venus Rising, Penny continues to perform and assist with choreography.
